Arundika Weerasekera is a Sri Lankan designer and founder of Hues of Batik, a British Sri Lankan wax resist dyeing laboratory centred on the heritage craft of batik. Her work treats batik as both a material practice and a mental discipline, driven by experimentation. Through years of hands on testing with wax flow, dye layering, and fabric behaviour, she has developed a method that approaches the craft as mindset training further from mere surface decoration.

Her practice is grounded in the belief that mistakes are data. In batik, wax cannot be erased and each mark remains visible. Every unexpected line or shift becomes part of the final result. This experimental framework forms the core of her sessions, where participants learn to test, adapt, and make clear decisions within constraint.

She has also developed a patent pending portable batik creation system, designed to take this heritage technique beyond the traditional studio. The system enables controlled experimentation in varied environments while preserving the integrity of the craft.

She positions batik as a tool for building clarity, resilience, and trust in process, introducing global audiences to a disciplined and exploratory approach to self development through material practice.

Event description
This workshop is a structured self development session delivered through wax resist dyeing, batik. Participants work through the full process of applying hot wax, layering dye, and responding to marks that cannot be erased. The session focuses on decision making under constraint, adaptive thinking, and emotional regulation when plans shift.

Each participant receives a batik kit upon registration. The kit includes all essential tools and materials required for the workshop and forms part of our patent pending portable batik creation system. This system allows the heritage process to be delivered in a controlled and accessible format beyond the traditional studio. (The Kit has materials to be used after the sessions too)

During the session, participants create their own batik textile while engaging in guided reflection on response, resilience, and process trust. The craft becomes a practical exercise in adapting rather than resisting.

By the end, each participant leaves with a completed batik textile piece, practical knowledge of wax resist dyeing techniques, and a clear framework for reframing setbacks in everyday life.

All materials provided, and all skill levels welcome. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on work.

Event Cancellation Policy
All bookings are non-refundable. However, if you let us know that you are unable to attend an event you have booked at least two weeks before the event, we will open up your place. If we find another participant, you will be offered a credit note.
