Animated Embroidery with Selina Latour as part of Textile Weekender at City Lit Art School textile weekender for London Textile Month.
Join us for a collaborative hand workshop where textiles meet animation! In this session, you’ll be part of a craft circle exploring the idea of the “woven loop”—a short, seamless animation reimagined through hand embroidery. Each participant will embroider one frame of a pre-designed looped animation.
These embroidered frames will then come together into a collective animation—a moving artwork created through many hands.
You will learn how to use a variety of embroidery stitches. then you will embroider a design, working with a pre-prepared template that will form a section for the embroidered animation. For the final stage, the group will work as a whole, to create the animation
By the end of the workshop, your embroidered frames will come together into a collective animation—a moving artwork created through many hands. Participants will keep their embroidered frame, with the hope that it might one day be used to patch or personalize a garment—carrying a trace of shared making.
Open to all skill levels, this workshop offers a space to slow down, exchange knowledge, and take part in a collaborative process. Learning will be achieved through repetition and practicing the basic techniques of embroidery using pre-prepared templates. You will be taken through the techniques with a group demonstration and then supported individually when necessary.
All tools and materials will be supplied. Please bring a small bag or envelope to take your embroidered piece home.
