The studio is warm with light and memory. Along the shelves, folded silks rest beside sketches and dye jars, and brushstrokes dry slowly on suspended fabric. This is where Victoria Richards has spent decades distilling colour into cloth, drawing on a painter’s instinct and a designer’s discipline. In this quiet corner of Brixton’s Clockwork Studios, the relationship between mark-making, material and mood feels both intimate and expansive.
For one afternoon only during London Textile Month, Richards opens her studio to a small group of guests for a 90-minute journey through the evolution of her practice. Richards has worked with many British and European couture houses including Paul Smith, Liberty, Valentino and Christian Lacroix, from creating designs for their collections to producing fabric runs for their catwalk shows. Richards is also well known for her ‘Jon Snow’ ties: the former Channel 4 news anchorman was a collector for over 25 years.
She will share stories behind the works that now live in museums and wardrobes around the world, speak candidly about the tension between craft and commerce, and offer a glimpse into the seasonal rhythm of her own collections - small-batch, hand-painted silk scarves that feel more like paintings than products.
There will be a live demonstration of her painterly techniques, an informal Q&A, and the opportunity to view and purchase a curated selection of recent works - from scarves and ties to framed textiles and colour studies.
This is more than a studio visit: it’s a rare chance to be immersed in the slow, expressive world of a textile artist who continues to shape cloth not by trend, but by hand, memory, and intuition.

I commissioned Victoria to design and print a length of silk for a bespoke wedding dress I was working on. It was astonishing how she immediately understood what we wanted, from just a few mood board images and abstract colour references (subtle shades of a moody sea/sky)
The result was just beautiful and Victoria was a delight to work with.
I hope to work with her again on future projects.
Dear Sarah, thank you for sharing such a lovely experience with Victoria. It’s wonderful to hear how quickly she understood your vision and brought it to life so beautifully. We’re delighted to know you enjoyed working with her and hope that attendees of our London Textile Month event with her this September will have similarly rewarding experiences.

I commissioned ties for a special occasion from Victoria. Observing her approach and process from start to finish was fascinating, inspiring and eye-opening. Her unmatched sense of colour and her ability to create the most subtle yet arresting combinations from what initially appeared to be a limited palette testifies to her brilliance. The ties were not only a complete knock-out, but I also learned a huge amount and feel very privileged to have had the chance to see her working methods up close.
Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and inspiring experience with Victoria. It’s wonderful to hear how her creative process and exceptional sense of colour left such a strong impression. We’re delighted that you found the opportunity to witness her work up close both educational and rewarding.
Best wishes

I joined one of Victoria’s workshops in the past and found it so inspiring and interesting - learning about her creative journey, both printing and hand painting her gorgeous patterns onto silk and velvet. A treat for all who attend!
Thank you for sharing your experience Sophie. We’re delighted to hear you found Victoria’s workshop inspiring and engaging. We're hoping her creative journey and beautiful hand-painted patterns will inspire others in her September event, part of our London Textile Month programme.
Best wishes
