Rachael Howard is marking 30 years of transforming the traditional necktie into an unexpected form of textile storytelling. Combining appliqué, screen printing and machine embroidery, she creates richly detailed linen ties that blend figurative imagery, wit and meticulous craftsmanship.
Her distinctive approach first gained recognition in the early 1990s when her work caught the attention of Paul Smith, leading to a series of exclusive collections. Since then, Howard has continued to develop an independent practice that reimagines the everyday accessory as a playful yet deeply personal object, exploring how textiles can spark conversation, curiosity and human connection.
Event Description
Rachael will present a talk on her tie collections alongside a pop-up exhibition bringing together some of her most distinctive designs and the stories of the people who wear them. Featuring designs from collections including Swimmers, Objects from Around the House and Rabbots, the exhibition reveals how these intricately crafted pieces become catalysts for unexpected encounters and exchanges.
Artist Talk: 2 - 3 p.m.
