The Quilters' Guild of the British Isles is a leading educational charity dedicated to promoting, preserving and celebrating the art of patchwork, appliqué and quilting throughout the United Kingdom. Founded in 1979, the Guild brings together a community of makers at every stage of their creative journey, championing both traditional and contemporary approaches to quilt-making.
Through exhibitions, workshops, regional groups and its nationally important collection of historic quilts, the organisation continues to support the exchange of knowledge while safeguarding the rich heritage of the craft for future generations.
Event Description
For this workshop, four experienced Guild members — all nationally and internationally recognised tutors — will share the depth of knowledge they have built over decades of practice, offering participants a rare opportunity to learn from a remarkable collective of makers.
The tutors will lead a workshop exploring the timeless technique of English Paper Piecing. Using geometric paper templates to create precise fabric shapes, participants will learn how small pieces can be stitched together to form intricate patterns, from stars and flowers to more complex mosaic-like designs. The session will introduce the foundations of the technique, including selecting fabrics, fussy cutting, choosing threads and mastering the hand stitching that gives English Paper Piecing its distinctive accuracy and charm.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to deepen their skills, the workshop offers a thoughtful introduction to a method that is both portable and meditative. Each participant will receive a carefully prepared kit and leave with the knowledge and confidence to continue their own stitching journey at home.
