Portia Gillies is a designer-maker crafting unique handmade knitwear and fashion accessories from her studio in Barnes, London. With a background in knitted textiles and fashion knitwear from art school, Portia marries passion with practical design to bring joy, colour and comfort to her creations.
Her collection features tank tops, scarves, snoods, hats, hand-warmers, glasses and mobile cases — alongside a range of one-off knitted handbags, all made using luxurious, natural, and vibrant yarns.
Portia’s approach balances beauty and function: garments and accessories that look wonderful, feel great to wear and are built for everyday life. Her studio practice emphasises craft, colour-play and material integrity, giving each piece its own character and purpose in the story of its wearer.

sara Williamson Portia’s cashmere buff is honestly one of my most treasured possessions. Wonderfully soft and truly warm, initially bought for skiing but I really do live in it on Cornish Winter days. Feels really stylish when out and about and beautifully cosy snuggled up in the evenings at home. The very best time for it though is after a cold dip in the sea in January!
I am truly hooked on Portia’s beautiful knitwear, fingerless gloves are also wonderful and mean I can do fiddly jobs on the farm. Tanktops are also faab and again jazz up the most dull outfits instantly and again keep that core really warm.
Above all though for such beautiful garments they are all hard wearing and will survive some Cornish abuse!
