Sally-Anne Thompson - Handmade Leather Bags
Sally-Anne Thompson trained in Theatre Wardrobe and Costume History at Liverpool and went on to work at The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. She later began to freelance as a costumier and by chance was asked to make some leather bags for a stage production at The Everyman Theatre. Returning to the leatherwork skills she acquired whilst prop making at college, she knew she'd found the medium she wanted to focus on.
Her bags evolved following a specialist hand stitching course which referenced traditional saddle making techniques. She felt an affinity with the slow, purposeful nature of this craft - creating work which is strong, functional and sustainable.
She sources saddles that would no longer be used and cleans, conditions and repurposes them into unique named and numbered designs.
Each bag is made with love, care and attention and so has its own unique character. Every design detail is considered from the tone of the pure linen thread to the length of each stitch.
Importantly they are made to use, to last and to become more beautiful over time.
