Sarah West is the founder of Yuga, bringing the finest examples of vintage Japanese textiles to today's interiors. Japan's textile culture dates back to the Yamato period of 300–700 AD, and has since produced some of the finest examples of quality and design found in any culture — the diversity of hand weaving, dyeing and printing across silk, cotton and wool seen to stunning effect in obis and kimonos.
Having grown up in the Orient and travelled extensively, Sarah developed a lifelong habit of textile foraging, alongside a parallel passion for sewing. Yuga was established after four decades working in the interior textile and interior design industry, born from her own search for fabric with an oriental bias for her home — a search that led her to rediscover the intrinsic beauty of the Japanese obi.
With a long-held regard for Japanese aesthetics across culture, architecture and design, Sarah collates and refashions vintage obis and kimonos into unique cushions, bringing the beauty of this textile tradition into the contemporary interior.
