Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 May 2025, Textile Jewellery with Yasmine Dabbous
14:00 - 17:00 BST (British Summer Time)
Hosted on Zoom by Yasmine Dabbous
Recording: the workshop will be recorded and a recording will be available after the event. Please allow 7 working days for the recording to be sent to you.
Yasmine's eclectic textile jewellery could almost be mistaken for precious antique pieces. Made by hand using a combination of different textile techniques to weave, crochet, wrap and plait threads, fibres and fabric, Yasmine creates jewellery that is bold yet delicate and intimately intertwined with colour and texture.
Yasmine is a visual culture artist and researcher from Beirut, Lebanon. She is the founder of Kinship Stories, a line of tribal art necklaces revolving around values, stories and craftsmanship. Yasmine is also one of the two women behind Espace Fann, a Beirut-based creative. Through her work, Yasmine fuses interdisciplinary methodologies and mediums to create pieces combining travel, storytelling, collage, and fibre art.
Outline of the workshop
The workshop will begin with an introduction to the medium of textile jewellery. Participants will then be led to create a collage, exploring materials, stories, and the importance of mixing materials and techniques to make textile jewellery. Yasmine will provide an overview of textile jewellery mediums (embroidery, weaving, beaded embroidery, crochet and knitting) as well as guide you through thinking about design and the role of fabric colour and texture. The second session of the workshop will focus on practice exercises and making your own piece of textile jewellery.
A material pack will be sent to participants prior to the workshop containing:
- Embroidery flosses of different colours
- Decorative items, including beads, sequins, small hoops and buttons
- Earring and pendant ends
- Ribbon
- Thin and thick ropes
- Elastic
- Threader
