Saturday 22 February 2025, Meet Dhruvita Paralkar (Royal Indian Miniature Costumes)
For the past 8 years, Dhruvita has had the privilege of working with Geeta Khandelwal, a globally recognised quilter and textile enthusiast based in Mumbai with experience of four decades. Together, they have collaborated on projects such as Indian Miniature Costumes, Miniature Dolls Quilt and Covid-19 stitching story books. Geeta Khandelwal has been a great mentor to Dhruvita. Dhruvita's expertise lies in pattern drafting, sewing, and embroidery. In the Indian Miniature Costumes project, Dhruvita played a vital role in studying and interpreting traditional costumes, scaling them down accordingly, choosing the right fabrics, creating patterns for costumes, and sewing the final pieces together.
The Indian Miniature Costumes is a collection of exquisitely handcrafted costumes consisting of 60 pieces including Jama, Angarakha, Chogha and Sherwani. These pieces are inspired by the book of The Calico Museum Of Textiles in Ahmedabad. Each costume in the collection showcases a unique traditional craftsmanship featuring a diverse range of fabrics such as silk brocades, hand block print, fine mal, jamdanis and many more.
Meet Dhruvita to find out more about Indian Miniature Costumes and their construction. This event will consist of a talk and a discussion and Q&A.
Dhruvita will also be running an online workshop, Stitch a Royal Indian Miniature Jama on Saturday 17 & Saturday 24 May 2025. To book your spot, visit our website HERE.
