South Africa, Frances VH Mohair, Rug Weaving & Knitwear
Founded in 2017 by Frances van Hasselt, FRANCES V.H Mohair is a women-led textile studio rooted in the vast landscapes of the Karoo, South Africa. Raised on a mohair farm, van Hasselt carries an innate understanding of this ancient, lustrous fibre — one that has shaped both her craft and her philosophy.
Working closely with a team of women artisans, the studio weaves textiles that honour place, provenance, and process. Each piece begins not with a trend or a collection, but with the land itself — the rhythms of the Karoo, the seasons, and the life cycle of the Angora goat, whose fleece inspires and sustains their work.
Every thread is an expression of respect for nature’s intelligence. Rather than moulding materials to fashion’s demands, the studio lets mohair guide form and texture, creating pieces that feel both elemental and refined.
Through a land-up approach, FRANCES V.H Mohair celebrates sustainability in its truest sense — working within local ecosystems and communities to produce textiles of integrity, warmth, and quiet beauty. Here, nature is not a resource but a collaborator, and each fabric tells the story of origin, care, and continuity.
