Textiles: The Art of Mankind

A vibrant collection of unexpected textiles objects never before exhibited in the UK are on display at London’s Fashion & Textile Museum this summer in Textiles: The Art of Mankind. Each tells their own tale, symbolic visual communication of cultural stories, traditions, and relationships between people, animals, and our land. It includes a pair of slippers, handcrafted by a Tibetan artisan pre-1975, made of fine twined sisal and the soles of a thicker sisal cordage. The turned-up toe style was practically designed to accommodate the rocky terrain of Tibet to prevent falling on uneven ground.
