Goldsmiths Textiles Collection & Constance Howard Gallery, Deptford Town Hall, Goldsmiths, University of London, SE14 6AF

Ruby Hodgson is the Curator of the Goldsmiths Textile Collection and the Curatorial Operations Coordinator at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Her research centres on eighteenth and early nineteenth century British fashion history, with focus on early industrialization, the historic reuse of textiles, and the constructions of class and gender through fashion. Her chapter, “Robe à la Grand-Mère: The Reuse of Eighteenth-Century Silks in Romantic-Era Fashion,” appears in Reading the Thread: Cloth and Communication (Bloomsbury Academic). She was a contributor to Silk: Fiber, Fabric, and Fashion (Thames & Hudson).

Event Description
Discover the world through threads! Join us for an inspiring object viewing and discussion at the Goldsmiths Textiles Collection, where fabric becomes a passport to global culture, innovation, and artistry. This event promises a rich tapestry of stories and styles. Engage in a vibrant exploration of how textiles shape identity, tradition, and the future of design.

Celebrate the history of the collection with this intimate event, offering visitors a chance to explore the College’s extraordinary archive of textile works, ranging from historical pieces and global garments to experimental samples by past students and tutors, including Constance Howard and Audrey Walker. This internationally significant collection is a living resource that continues to spark research, making, and new ideas across the textile field.

Whether you're a maker, a scholar, or simply a lover of beautiful things, this is your chance to see textiles in a new light - tactile, powerful, and deeply connected to global narratives.

Event Cancellation Policy
All bookings are non-refundable. However, if you let us know that you are unable to attend an event you have booked at least two weeks before the event, we will open up your place. If we find another participant, you will be offered a credit note.
