Cassandra Sabo is a textile designer and hand-weaver based in Oxford, creating richly textured textiles for contemporary interiors. Her practice explores the relationship between fibre, structure and form, combining an intuitive understanding of materials with the analytical perspective of her background in engineering.
Working across both soft furnishings and more sculptural pieces, she investigates how woven surfaces can influence not only visual character but also the spatial and acoustic qualities of an interior. Alongside her studio practice, Cassandra developed the Oxford Frame Loom as a way of making her distinctive approach to weaving more accessible, and through her teaching she encourages others to look beyond decoration and engage more deeply with the possibilities of yarn, texture and process. Her work reflects a commitment to slow making, sustainability and a contemporary approach to traditional craftsmanship.
Event Description
Cassandra will lead a small-group workshop introducing her material-led approach to weaving on the Oxford Frame Loom. Participants will begin by learning how to dress the loom before exploring a series of foundational techniques that reveal how different fibres behave and interact.
Using wool roving alongside a carefully chosen selection of soft and structured materials, the session focuses on how texture can be built through repetition, contrast and thoughtful material choice. Throughout the workshop, Cassandra will share insights from her own design practice, showing how the same principles can be applied to both interior textiles and more sculptural work.
By the end of the session, each participant will leave with a woven sample of their own and a digital guide to support further exploration at home. All materials and use of the loom are included, and no previous experience is required.
