ISHKAR wants to change the way we think about countries affected by war and political instability. Perceptions of Afghanistan, Yemen or Iraq are defined by conflict rather than culture, and their beauty and art has been lost behind the headlines. ISHKAR partners with master weavers, tailors and craftsmen across the world offering a wide range of products, including hand woven bed covers and cushions made by artisans in Myanmar crafted using traditional hand weaving techniques, and hand-knotted carpets from Kabul, Afghanistan.
In Lebanon, ISHKAR produces patchwork quilts and embroidery, and in Colombia they are working with artisans to produce textile products using reclaimed fabrics.
Each product is the result of a collaboration between ISHKAR and the artisan groups with whom they work. In several instances this also includes the development of training programmes, or working closely with local NGO's or social enterprises to ensure that each range is impactful and is representative of time-honoured techniques and traditions.
