Until 12 October: Steve Messam, Tower
Until 17 August, Penistone Hill Country Park, Haworth, Yorkshire
Environmental artist Steve Messam brings Tower to the “Wool Capital of the World” to mark the Bradford City of Culture 2025. Known for his iconic site-specific installations that interrupt protected landscapes, with Tower, Messam explores the landscape of the Penistone Hill Country Park, near Haworth and its relationship to the city of Bradford. The 10 metre-tall sculpture is clad in the raw fleece from two local sheep breeds – Derbyshire Gritstone and Lonk. This fleece cladding is inspired by the role played by sheep in physically shaping and maintaining the surrounding landscape, and by the importance of wool in the city’s industrial heritage.
