12 Days of Christmas 2024, Win a Craske Gansey Wool Sweater by Charl Knitwear

Charl Knitwear is a modern British knitwear collection which draws inspiration directly from Norfolk fishermen’s Gansey jumpers where its founder, Frankie Davies grew up.

The collection is crafted from the finest sustainable British wools, organic cotton and natural alpaca yarns by highly skilled small-scale manufacturers in England and Italy.

Frankie has 25 plus years of experience designing for luxury brands including Burberry, but she wanted to create her own brand in order to celebrate a kinder side to fashion which is centered around extensive research and swatch development and using the most sustainable fibres.

“Every single piece has been directly inspired by the actual stitches and stories found in the original Norfolk Gansey jumpers. Each style is named after a real  fisherman or knitter because it is so important to me to keep their stories and traditions alive.”

The Autumn/Winter ’24 collection centres around the theme “Make-do and Mend,” a homage to the resourcefulness and ingenuity of Norfolk's 19th-century fishing communities, capturing their spirit of resilience and creativity.

“In the age of throwaway fashion, it felt really important to me to pay homage to these people who literally made everything they owned: from fishing nets and baskets to their knitted underwear, socks and Gansey jumpers. When these things became worn or damaged, they mended them, and the repairs became part of their story.”

The Charl A/W ’24 collection celebrates this concept by using the left-over yarns and colours to create beautiful new pieces like patchwork socks and gilets, that have been knitted in British wool in Nottinghamshire: "From fleece to finished knit in under 125 miles.

Prize:
Be in the chance to win a Craske Gansey Wool Sweater by Charl Knitwear (see top image), worth £295.
