Christabel Balfour: Unimagined Animal
In putting together this show, Christabel Balfour found herself on the borderline between invention and memory, making new works that were rooted in imagery and ideas from years ago. Such as paintings and drawings from over a decade ago, when she graduated from her Fine Art studies at Camberwell College of Art and the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art.
She says: '.. even though I started by looking back, the process of reimagining and reworking my old ideas in a different medium has brought me out somewhere entirely new'.
Christabel Balfour is an artist and tapestry weaver based in East London. She set up her eponymous studio in practice in 2015, and since then her work has spanned the domains of craft, functional design and fine art. Scroll down for a look inside her exhibition of exquisite work at our gallery, now open until the 19 of May.
