Competition Time: winners and chancers to enter
Word perfect
Perhaps you don’t agree that a picture speaks a thousand words? Do you prefer to express yourself in a literary fashion? Why not enter our competition to find talented textile journalists? We’re looking for a lively style and a dash of humour but also require a thorough knowledge of textiles, meticulous attention to detail, and accurate grammar – in short, you should demonstrate both style and structure.
This year, we would like either a profile of a living artist or designer and convey in 500 words the driving force behind their work and how it fits into a wider context or 500 words that document a textile trend – a short and sweet survey of a new idea. Articles must be submitted as unformatted Word documents. Enter the Selvedge Writing Competition 2024.

Illustrate Your Point
For this year's competition, we would like entrants to create a design that illustrates a textile term.
For example, consider “tenterhooks”
Tenterhooks or tenter hooks are hooked nails in a device called a tenter. Tenters were wooden frames which were used as far back as the 14th century in the process of making woollen cloth. They are now superseded by stenter pins. The phrase "on tenterhooks" has become a metaphor for nervous anticipation. Enter the Selvedge Illustration Competition 2024.
