CREATIVE NATURAL DYE CLASS WITH BOTANICAL INKS
Join us and Botanical Inks to to play with a range of surface application processes, including bundle dyeing, Shibori tie dye, painting, Hapazome and dye injecting, using a range of natural dye materials, including fresh and dried flowers, berries and leaves; powder pigments, liquid dyes and paints. Everything used will be made from botanicals and minerals, along with some insect dyes and organic British silk.
.
You will be given an introduction to the different techniques, and have an open session for getting creative. This is a beginner's class, however more experienced natural dyers may also enjoy the opportunity to explore using a mixture of techniques together to create something new and truly distinctive. You will leave with a new perspective on how to use natural dyes creatively, without boundaries, and with your own naturally dyed length of silk which you may use to make a scarf, cushion cover or other project.
Botanical Inks provides a pioneering model for circular textile production systems in the UK, based on human-scale and biologically nutritious design. A length of organic British silk will be provided and included in class for you to use, and there will also be more available to buy at an additional cost.
Tea and coffee will be provided. You may wish to bring extra snacks. Wear clothes which you can get messy.
The class will be hosted by Babs Behan and will have a maximum of 14 participants.
