Pikul Table Lamp from PET Lamp
The PET Lamp Project addresses the global issue of plastic waste with a localised approach: reusing PET bottles with traditional weaving techniques to create unique handmade lampshades.
Founded in 2011 by designer Álvaro Catalán de Ocón, the project is designed to reduce the quantity of PET bottles that end up as waste, increase public awareness of plastic waste in general and preserve and promote traditional artisanship. The project currently has eight collections with more on the way.
PET lamps use the strong neck of the PET bottle as the structural element, while the more flexible body is cut and flared out for the artisans to weave on. Just as the tracking number printed on the bottle's neck tells the story of its production, the weaving created by the artisan tells of their tradition through the fibres, colours and motifs.
We have one Pikul Table Lamp to give away, worth £590.
Fiona Howard Wallpaper
We are delighted to have partnered with Fiona Howard to give away 3 rolls of wallpaper (52cm x 10m), including free postage within the UK. All designed by hand the traditional way, Fiona Howard creates wallpaper patterns which have all the charm of a woodblock print.
Her patterns begin in nature, are translated through sketches and drawings into flowing repeating designs which weave stories of pretty shells and crabs in sunlit rockpools, or encapsulate the charm of a Summer meadow of wild flowers onto lino blocks. These are then carefully carved and printed by hand, one lino for each colour layered each on top of the last to create wallpaper patterns which transcend trends to become part of your home’s story.
Fiona Howard wallpapers are easy to apply ‘paste-the-wall’ papers which are sustainably printed in the UK. For every roll of wallpaper sold a tree is planted in conjunction with One Tree Planted.
You can also try the new Wallpaper Visualiser on the Fiona Howard website to imagine what a room in your home would look like with any of the wallpapers.
oB Wear Bespoke Garments
oB wear is the project of a one woman garment maker Milly Melbourne, who seeks to create considered garments that adapt and move with our changing bodies and styles, rather than constricting against them.
Garment making for shape, body and expression, while using finely worked natural materials to explore tactile dialogues of enclosing the body with cloth, playing in the realm between being naked and clothed.
oB is offering the gift of two carefully crafted, made to measure pieces, tailored to fit the body of the winning wearer: a soft and weighty organic cotton Ritual Dress and a pair of organic hemp and cotton Enclose Trousers.
Find out more about the bespoke garments over on the competition page.
