MEET THE MAKER: KATE KILMURRAY
Kate Kilmurray uses simple and slow hand-weaving techniques to reuse old socks and other fabric leftovers to create useful household textiles. Using a metal frame handloom, fabric strips are woven together to create intricately coloured and patterned woven one-of-a kind fabric swatches that can be used as potholders, household cloths and textile art pieces in their own right.
Kilmurray has run multiple arts and wellness businesses, each in proximity to her yoga practice and teaching over three decades. More recently, she has attuned her creative sensibilities to the craft of hand-weaving: both as a creative act and practice of meditation. From the scattering of her weavings around the world, to the circles of women brought together through her teaching, Kate’s work is embedded with community: a source of solace and a space of belonging.
Meet Kate to learn more about her upcycling weaving techniques, innovative ways to recycle and reuse and gain insight into her upcoming online workshop, Save Your Socks!
Meet Kate Kilmurray on Saturday 13 August at 16:00 - 17:00 BST (British Summer time). The event will be hosted online on Zoom in a Zoom meeting setting where attendees can meet and ask questions 'face to face.
