RaasLeela will be hosting our first Hand Stitching of Kediyo, The Peplum blouse of Gujarat. Kediyo is a traditional Gujarati men’s garment that is characterised by an asymmetrically tied tunic made from undyed handloom cotton that fits closely across the chest with strings on both seams, making the garment adjustable along with a heavily gathered peplum flair. In their workshop on Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 March, participants will learn how to hand stitch seams of Kediyo, attach sleeves, make pleats for flair, make and attach strings as fastening, make tassels, and attach labels.
The workshop is designed by Hetal Shrivastav, the founder of RaasLeela Textile. Coming from a weaver’s community, Hetal has been working with various needle crafts of Gujarat, India for over a decade.
RaasLeela makes 100% hand-sewn products without any use of a sewing machine at all. The brand focuses on sustainability - Everything should be thoughtful and not just beautiful when it is a matter of people and planet! RaasLeela is known for using only Kora- dye free and bleach free fabrics as fresh material and practices zero waste production, even 1*1 cm fabric piece is used.
