Selvedge Fair: Charlotte Macey
This March, Selvedge is hosting one of our popular artisan fairs in the beautiful city of Bath. Today, Jessica Edney speaks to one of our carefully curated exhibitors, Charlotte Macey, who is the founder of a handmade homewares and accessories brand.
How did the Charlotte Macey brand come about?
After graduating from my degree I worked as a freelance textile designer and sold my embroideries on paper and fabric as part of exhibitions in galleries. I then worked for a magazine in London for six months, gaining inspiration and learning about the day-to-day running of a business. Deciding that I missed greenery and the countryside I moved back to the Cotswolds and started to embroider and make a small collection of linen homeware items in the evenings In May 2010 I set up Charlotte Macey, tested the waters by selling at local markets and the rest is history, as they say!
What is it like living in the Cotswolds?
I grew up in the Cotswolds and it is the most beautiful place in all seasons, getting outside for walks or to run around in the fresh air is so great for your headspace and relaxation. The flora and fauna I’m surrounded by daily have always provided such wonderful inspiration for my patterns and embroidery designs. The cow parsley is out in abundance in the hedgerows almost all year round, tall and fluffy in summer and spindly floral skeletons in winter, both equally beautiful.
What will you be exhibiting at Bath?
I will be bringing a range of one-off embroidered linen coin purses and pouches, floral printed cushions and homeware items, a range of one-off framed embroideries and pretty lavender bundles. I can’t wait!
