Selvedge Talks To... Dinah Nicholson
Dinah Nicholson has been making her fairies for over 12 years. They are made from the finest textiles and objets trouvés and each has an individual charm right down to her glittery wand, her antique silk tulle petticoat and the hand-drawn twinkle in her eye.

My grandmother taught me to sew aged 9 and I loved delving through her scraps bag
What is it about textiles that captured your attention?
The matching of colours and their texture
What inspires you?
Turning fabrics from nothing to a beautiful thing in your hand
Who inspires you?
Anyone who makes unusual things by hand
What is your favourite part of the process of sourcing/ making/ doing what you do? Finding exquisite lace in markets
What’s the hardest part, what do you dislike?
Running out of something vital when I'm on a roll.
What’s your ideal Sunday?
Having all my family for a delicious Sunday roast.
If you could fly anywhere in the world tomorrow where would you go and why?
Florence because I have never been.
What’s your favourite colour?
White.
What are you reading at the moment? I am reading a John LeCarre book but it's really boring.
