Make your own contribution to the London Design Festival. Pigeons may not appeal to everyone but we have decided to embrace these iconic, or at least persistent, London residents and recreate Trafalgar Square in the lovely surroundings of the Victoria & Albert Museum. With printers Thornback & Peel, our drop-in workshop will provide all the materials to create your own pigeon to add to our flock. 18-19 September, 10am-5.30pm, V&A Museum, South Kensington, London, SW7 2RL www.vam.ac.uk www.londondesignfestival.com
Homemade London is a new craft salon that offers evening and weekend workshops in everything from bag-making and lingerie to signature scent creation, upholstery and chandelier making. It also offers sewing-machine and workshop space hire by the hour, organises private parties and hosts fashion seminars. Aiming to celebrate craft design talent in a beautiful setting, founder, Nicola Barron, has worked with leading designer-makers to create bespoke designs, using the finest materials.
We had a great time at the Big Chill Festival, with the help of Abigail Brown and many crafty festival goers we created a flock of over 500 beautiful birds. We would like to thank Coats Crafts, Cath Kidston, Sanderson, Bennison, Fiskars and the British Wool Marketing Board for their generous sponsorship. You can see more photographs on our Facebook page by clicking this link. The birds will also be on display at the Selvedge Shop for the next month... Enjoy!
We can all learn more about sustainable fashion so when Sheena Matheiken wore the same dress every day for a year to raise funds for the Akanksha Foundation, an organisation helping Indian children through education, we took note. Hoping to continue the success of last year's project, Sheena has selected fellow fashionistas to take part in The Uniform Project's second assignment: 'One Dress, One Month, One Cause'. We can't wait for the daily fashion show starting August 1st!
