Last Chance to See! The Joss Graham gallery is currently exhibiting hand embroidered and woven textiles by Nigel Atkinson (see issue 11) entitled ‘Light on India- Light from Japan’. The collection explores the effects of light on cloth and its rich gold leaf is the result of collaboration with Rekiseisha, a maker of metal leaf surfaces based in Horishima in Japan. At this year's 100% Design St Jude's founder Angie Lewin will be launching her new screen-printed fabric ‘Meadow edge’. Lewin’s background in garden design is evident in this new collection, inspired by common flora. The graphic prints look as though the world is glimpsed literally from the meadows edge, through the stems and buds of plants; a fresh take on traditional floral motifs.
For textiles with a contemporary take on Finnish folklore and fantasy look no further than the work of design duo Klaus Haapaniemi and Mia Wallenius. The pair have recently opened their flagship store in East London. Fittings and furniture made of brass, wood and marble fill the tranquil, organic space.
