Kilims: Warp & Weft unveils an unexpected minimalist marvel: the flat-woven kilims of Iran’s Mazandaran region. These geometric textiles—woven in wool and silk by local women—embrace the fundamentals of warp and weft to express both strict structure and subtle colour gradation. Through bold stripes, fields of intense pigment and ikat-like gradients, each kilim becomes an abstract composition, a study in woven restraint and visual rhythm.
Presented as a sumptuous visual celebration, this book is more than an ordinary textile compendium. Expert essays weave considerations of 20th-century minimalism, materiality and colour theory into the narrative, situating these rural textiles within broader aesthetic and conceptual dialogues. The result is a richly curated portrait of an under‑recognised art form, balancing scholarly insight with an intimate appreciation of cloth-as-contemporary-art.
