The Blouse was woven on a foot loom, made in the same traditional technique from the town, Xela. It was woven by Nelly Menchu in the town of Xela.
The piece was woven in a workshop / house from the weaver. It was woven in then same traditional technique as a Ceremonial Huipil from Xela. It is woven with the traditional foot loom with new color combinations.
The piece is woven in three panels as the traditional one. The neckline decoration is hand embroidered. It is special, because ladies use them less and less each year. It is a technique that is dying. The blouse is a copy of the Ceremonial Huipil from Xela, woven on a foot loom. The loom was introduced by Spaniards in colonial times. The weavers adapted the traditional patterns to make them in this type of loom.
The back ground is woven in cotton. The designs are woven with rayon. Fibre It is produced locally, Guatemala.
