Cloth as Counterculture: Weaving Belonging, Crafting Identity, Threading Systems Change.
Coinciding with London Fashion Week, this fireside conversation invites us to explore the radical potential of cloth in shaping identity, community, and systems change. We’ll consider how craft, design, and cultural heritage can support climate resilience and drive environmental, social, and economic justice.
Chaired by multi-award-winning entrepreneur, Nancy Vong Johnston - regenerative
designer and founder of House of Tengri and Source Mountain - the evening brings
together dynamic women working at the intersection of craft, culture, and creative
resistance.
Join Polly Leonard, founder of Selvedge, Christine Chang Hanway, Director of Stories & co-founder of Source Mountain; and Dr Lynne Hocking, a 7th-generation handweaver, scientist, and storyteller of place.
Each will offer a unique lens through which to examine how textiles carry ancestral knowledge, connect us to place, and inspire new narratives of belonging.
Expect a thought-provoking evening of insight, imagination, and meaningful
dialogue—with space for Q&A and collective reflection.
Exchange is on Level -1 of the New Wing of Somerset House (off Lancaster Place).
If arriving via New Wing, access via the South Stairs. The space has step-free
access.
This event is part of London Textile Month and welcomes all who seek to weave
purpose and possibility into the fabric of our future.
This event is free to enter, booking is required.
