Qing Fibre was founded by Layla Yang in 2016 as a colourful experiment in hand-dyed fibre. What started as a fascination with colour and texture has grown into a creative studio producing yarn known by its vibrant shades, richly saturated palettes, and nuanced variegated tones.
Working with high-grade natural fibres like superfine merino, cashmere and silk - each base is chosen for its unique feel and character. Qing Fibre uses mulesing-free fibres and values traceability and responsible sourcing. Material choices are made with care, taking into account both animal welfare and environmental considerations.
At Qing Fibre, dyeing is never one-size-fits-all. Each yarn base reacts differently, and every colour recipe is developed to bring out the best in that particular fibre. Whether it's the glow of silk, the softness of cashmere, or the earthy depth of yak, QF is always exploring what colour can do across these textures.
Alongside its distinctive yarn collections, Qing Fibre’s knitwear patterns are designed to celebrate hand-dyed yarns and the joy of making. Patterns produced by the studio are made to inspire creativity. From seasonal collections to special releases, each design is an invitation to explore colour, texture, and technique through knitting.
Event Description
Visitors are invited into the London Studio, to step behind the scenes and meet the makers of Qing Fibre. There will be space simply to sit, to knit, to talk — a chance to meet fellow crafters and put faces to the names behind the QF Studio Team.
Guests are welcome to share their tips and tricks, knitting triumphs, or horror stories. Whether they're a pro or just curious, this is the perfect chance to connect, learn, and celebrate each other's creativity. A few challenges await those wanting to test their skills as well.
There's also opportunity to be nosy around the studio, browse skeins up close and admire the sample knits. Visitors can explore the carefully curated yarn bases in both their natural undyed state and beautifully dyed finishes, and take a closer look at the superfine 100% merino wool and luxuriously soft baby alpaca fibres, experiencing their texture firsthand while planning their next project.
For anyone inspired by what they see, the yarn will also be available to purchase on the day, giving attendees the chance to take home their favourite skeins straight from the studio.
At its heart, this is simply an invitation to chat, to craft, and to share in good company.
Please note, this is a free event but spaces are limited. To reserve your place, simply add a ticket to your cart and complete the checkout process in our shop. No payment details are required.
