About Clarissa Hulse:
Clarissa Hulse designs luxurious homeware from her studio in North London, with a signature emphasis on botanical imagery and bold colour. Her designs draw from her own nature photography, sourced as readily from a tropical rainforest as from the leaves of Highbury Fields, just a stone's throw from her studio.
Born in Prague, where her father was posted as a diplomat, Clarissa had a nomadic childhood, living in Bangkok, Brussels, Athens, and Vienna, with summers spent in her mother's native Greece. She credits this upbringing with her love of textiles and interiors, as her mother would furnish each new home with beautiful textiles and handicrafts gathered from local markets, while filling the house with botanical finds.
Clarissa studied textiles at Brighton Art College in the 90s before moving to London as a freelance textile designer. Passionate about screen printing, she set up a studio producing hand-printed scarves that quickly found success, with orders from Liberty, Barney's, Neiman Marcus, and Joyce boutique in Hong Kong. The collection grew to include clothing, kimonos, and loungewear, but wanting to move away from the fast pace of fashion and focus on her botanical style, she launched her first homewares collection in 2002, stocked by Heals and the Conran Shop.
Since then, Clarissa has built award-winning fabric and wallpaper collections with Harlequin, alongside cushions and bed linen sold at John Lewis, NEXT and M&S. Her range now spans gift items, kitchenware, murals and her beloved scarves, continuing to bring joy and colour into people's homes.
Clarissa Hulse will be opening her studio and giving a demonstration and talk as part of London Textile Month 2026. Take a look at the event HERE
