Win a Farmhouse Broom by Rosa Harradine
About the Prize:
The Farmhouse Broom is a versatile household essential, perfectly suited to a variety of hard floors from wood, to tile, lino, vinyl, cork, and concrete. With bristles that strike the right balance between firm and soft, and fine, wispy ends designed to catch every speck of dust, it’s as practical as it is beautiful.
Each broom is handmade using traditional materials — broomcorn, beech, ash or oak wood, nylon, and a cork hanging strap. The handle is individually hand-painted with eco-friendly paint, making every piece unique.
Broomcorn, a natural fibre derived from a type of sorghum, lends the broom its distinctive sweep and durability. Beyond its function, the Farmhouse Broom carries symbolic meaning, and can often be seen used in wedding ceremonies for “jumping the broom,” or given as a thoughtful housewarming gift to celebrate new beginnings.
Worth £190.
About Rosa Harradine:
Rosa Harradine is a brush and broom maker based in wild West Wales. Working with natural materials and traditional techniques, she creates objects that are both functional and beautiful — tools that bring a quiet sense of presence to everyday life. Each brush and broom is designed to be used, yet also stands as a sculptural form, celebrating the simple, meditative act of sweeping.
Originally trained in music, studying clarinet, saxophone, and piano, Harradine always felt a deep pull toward making with her hands. After exploring a variety of crafts including spoon carving, bowl turning on a traditional pole lathe, and basketry, it was broom and brush making that captured her imagination most fully.
Every piece is handmade in West Wales using sustainable materials such as broomcorn, tampico, and arenga fibres. Many of the wooden handles are harvested from her own small patch of woodland.
Alongside her studio practice, Harradine teaches workshops, sharing the joy of traditional craft and encouraging others to discover the satisfaction of making by hand.
In 2022, she was selected as a TOAST New Maker, recognised for excellence in skill, originality, and craftsmanship. In 2025, she was named one of The King’s Foundation’s “35 Under 35”, a network of makers and change-makers connecting through nature, tradition, and sustainability.
When not in the workshop, Harradine can be found tending the vegetable garden, walking in the woods, or lovingly restoring a nearly 200-year-old house.
