Win a Pashmina Shawl from Kashmir Loom

About the Prize:

Kashmir Loom is giving away a luxurious pashmina shawl, finished with delicate sozni embroidery in silk thread. This refined narrow border - hashiya - enhances the elegance of the handwoven ivory pashmina. Inspired by the timeless beauty of gul (flowers) the shawl carries a quiet sophistication, revealing layers of masterful craftsmanship in every detail.

Worth £500

About Kashmir Loom:

Kashmir Loom is a heritage textile house founded by Jenny Housego and Asaf Ali, alongside his brothers, in Srinagar, the lake capital of Kashmir Valley. Together with master craftsmen, they bring a modern sensibility to the centuries-old tradition of Kashmiri woven and embroidered shawls, balancing heritage with progress.

Jenny Housego, textile historian and designer, has spent nearly three decades in India, working alongside weavers and embroiderers to combine traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. She has co-founded two successful companies that placed Indian textiles firmly on the world's luxury map, and through her social projects has revived ancient weaving techniques and sustained livelihoods for families from Haryana to Kashmir and West Bengal. Her training in Art History and deep knowledge of textile traditions from India and the Middle East continue to inspire the craft at Kashmir Loom.

Asaf Ali's passion for textiles began at 15, apprenticing under his uncle, a renowned carpet collector in Srinagar. There he met Jenny, who mentored him in textile and carpet history, giving him a rare ability to connect production with heritage. He later joined her expeditions studying how fiber from the Changra goats of Ladakh was spun into cashmere. Decades later, their partnership endures.

Yet the true inspiration remains Kashmir itself, shaped by centuries of trade routes and the lasting influence of 19th-century French and British fashion on the Kashmiri shawl.

Production takes place in small family workshops upholding dignity and craftsmanship: women hand-spin pashmina on traditional charka wheels, which men hand-weave into fabric of remarkable softness and strength, an amalgamation of history, quality and artistic innovation.
