Selvedge Spring Fair picks from Polly Leonard
I am looking forward to our London Fair on Saturday and want to share a few of my favourite designers exhibiting their wares. Firstly Emma Chapman (stall B4) who uses gorgeous gemstones, precious metals and ancient techniques to create regal heirloom treasure for today. Drawing on old traditions, her jewellery incorporates carving, engraving, enamel, jaali and embossed work. The pieces are a mix of boho chic and old school glamour, and are all handmade in Jaipur by master goldsmiths and stone –cutters. So if you lust after sapphires, emeralds, rubies, lapis and turquoise you will find Emma in the small hall.
To accompany your touch of bling, I'd recommend something special from Sula (stall A11). Alison Taylor has travelled throughout India and Vietnam in search of communities who weave, dye and embellish luxury cloth. I share Alison's love of the irregularities of hand-woven cloth especially as it develops a patina over time. Her jewelled coloured silk shifts and bolded wool cardigans are a must. You will find Alison in the Main Hall.
Finally to purge the guilt of my over indulgence I will be stocking up on lots of reclaimed Walnut salad servers from for Grain & Knot (Stall B40) There is a lot of discussion in the press at present about luxury well, for me, spreading salty butter on a toasted crumpet with a hand carved knife is as good as it gets. The perfect hostess gift for a summer party invitation. Sophie could even teach you how to carve a spoon yourself in one of her half day workshops.
Advance tickets £5 (on the door price £7.50)
