
Selvedge Wardrobe Revolution Weekend: Reimagining Our Relationship with Clothing
Our connection to clothing is deeply personal. Garments are our constant companions, offering warmth, protection, and a way to express our identities as we move through life. We cherish, alter, and reinvent our clothes as tastes and trends evolve, a tradition that’s spanned generations. However, as we confront urgent climate challenges, the balance in our relationship with clothing faces greater scrutiny.
On 19 October, the Selvedge Wardrobe Revolution Weekend offers a meaningful response to the environmental and social impacts of the textile industry and fast fashion. With a lineup of ten distinguished speakers, the event will explore the Crisis in our Wardrobes and highlight sustainable alternatives.

Our speakers—textile practitioners, academics, historians, activists, filmmakers, designers, and artists—will share diverse perspectives on how we can transform the future of fashion and textiles. This year’s theme, Things We Learned on a Carpet in Kindergarten, emphasises simple yet powerful principles for sustainability:

As part of the Wardrobe Revolution Weekend, we will be running two workshops on techniques to reduce textile waste and make-use of "waste" textiles. Paiwand Studio, based in India, will be leading an Threads of Revival: Upcycled Embroidery workshop on Sunday 20 October 2024 between 11:00 - 13:00 BST. Jackie Parsons of Scobel Clothing will be teaching an online Slipper Making workshop on Sunday 20 October 2024 between 14:00 - 16:00 BST.
