The Inaugural London Textile Month is Here!
Today, on 1 September 2025, London throws open its doors to textiles with the launch of London Textile Month – a city-wide celebration of cloth, culture, and creativity curated by Selvedge magazine. For the very first time, makers, brands, institutions, and galleries across the capital will join forces to host a month of workshops, exhibitions, talks, and open studios, all stitched together into one inspiring month long festival.
Monday 1 September: Online Talk: The Art of the Trademark in Indo-British Textile Trade with Shrey Maurya and Rachna Shetty of MAP Academy.
Since 2010, Selvedge has hosted fairs, screenings, workshops, and symposia that connect audiences with the textile world. London Textile Month 2025 represents the culmination of these experiences: a patchwork quilt of creativity, uniting the capital’s vibrant textile community and welcoming new audiences into its fold.
Wednesday 10 September: Workshop: Creating Vibrant Colour with Natural Dyes with Liz Baltesz.
Visitors are invited to step inside makers’ studios, wander through groundbreaking exhibitions, and discover the extraordinary creativity that textiles bring to everyday life. From intimate workshops to large-scale exhibitions in national museums, the month offers a rich tapestry of experiences. Independent galleries, heritage makers’ spaces, and contemporary studios across the city will open their doors, weaving together opportunities to learn new skills, connect with global voices, and celebrate the diverse stories threaded through cloth. Many events are free to attend, made possible by the generosity and dedication of London’s textile community.
Thursday 11 September: Clothes Swap at the Museum of the Home with Diana Uprichard of DOLLY Clothing.
Curious about how something is made? Live demonstrations will reveal the often unseen and undervalued processes behind finished pieces, offering a rare chance to witness craft in action. For those who prefer a hands-on approach, workshops led by textile artists provide the perfect opportunity to work with cloth directly — though spaces are filling up quickly and booking ahead is advised! Exhibitions invite visitors to wander London’s streets with a textile-inspired eye, while screenings, talks, and tours offer further ways to step behind the scenes and discover the stories hidden in archives, theatres, and collections.
Thursday 18 September: Symposium - Crafting Regenerative Fashion & Textile Futures at the Conway Hall.
With events running throughout September, there is something for everyone — from beginners trying their hand at a new technique, to seasoned professionals looking to deepen their knowledge. Some settings are lively and social, while others are quiet and intimate, perfect for reflection. Together, they form a festival that is not only about admiring craftsmanship but about slowing down, looking closer, and asking the important questions: who made this, and why?
Saturday 20 September: Open Studio and Talk: Colour to Cloth with Victoria Richards.
London Textile Month offers a chance to celebrate the power of textiles to connect, inspire, and create change. This September, Selvedge invites everyone to join in and see what happens when a city is stitched together through cloth.
